The Stonecutter - Greatness Within

Long ago, a Stonecutter was hard at work at the base of a large mountain. That day, a Merchant came to town. Dressed in fancy clothes and gold jewelry. All the townspeople crowded around to speak to him and make deals, including the Stonecutter. As the Stonecutter was waiting to speak to the Merchant, he wished he had the money and power of a Merchant and POOF! Suddenly, he was a Merchant!

The Stonecutter, now Merchant, traveled from town to town on a fine horse in his fancy clothes. Making deals, charging too much or giving deals however he felt. Then one day, a Prince arrived. The Prince was carried on a golden throne. All the townspeople respected the Prince. They threw flowers in front of him and bowed before him. Even the powerful Merchant had to bow before the Prince. As the Stonecutter was kneeling before the Prince, he wished he could be as powerful as the Prince. POOF! He was a Prince.

The Stonecutter Prince was traveling from region to region, collecting taxes, being praised and having people bow before him. On one very hot day, he began to realize how uncomfortable he was in his beautiful chair. He looked up and realized that even he, the PRINCE was not as powerful as the Sun. The sun did not bow before him. POOF! The Stonecutter became the Sun.

The Stonecutter Sun was enjoying shining brightly in the sky, making the flowers and crops grow. Then one day, glowing on a particularly nice wheat field, something moved in front of him, blocking his light. It was a Cloud. How can the Cloud be even more powerful than me, the Sun? I am better than a Prince, and Merchant and the lowly Stonecutter. So, he wished to be the Cloud.

The Stonecutter Cloud floated in the skies providing shade to the hot and rain to the crops. The Stonecutter had never felt more powerful, when he felt something push him from behind! It was the Wind. I think you know where this is going.... POOF!! He was the Wind.

The Stonecutter Wind moved across the plains and valleys, making cool breezes, strong gusts and dust storms. The Stonecutter felt complete. Until one day, he pushed against something he could not move. With all his power, it would not budge. It was a Mountain. And so, the Stonecutter wished with all his heart to be the eternal Mountain. Stronger than the Wind, larger than the Cloud, brighter than the Sun, more powerful than the Prince, richer than the Merchant and far better than the humble Stonecutter.

For many years, the Stonecutter Mountain sat for all to see for miles in every direction. He was eternal, an immovable force, a sight to behold in all his glory. Then one day, he felt a sharp pain far, far down below near his base. So far that he had to strain to see. And this insignificant speck causing him so much pain.... was a humble Stonecutter.

Working towards better does not mean wishing to be something you're not. Working towards better involves embracing who you are and what you are. Working towards better involves realizing there's greatness within you then moving towards that.
